    SJ Poolhouse and Fence

A small 200 sf pool pavilion and adjoining fence complete the formalization of the courtyard and entry sequence to the existing house. The pavilion provides a reprieve for pool users from the heat and insects while also providing an area for pool equipment storage. It shields the pool both visually and acoustically from the busy street to the front of the property. The pavilion itself, a single-story wood frame vernacular outbuilding, draws its formal inspiration from its immediacy to water. The roof provides a method of moving and collecting rainwater. It mimics the frame construction of the hull of a local vernacular boat – the Chesapeake Deadrise. Standing inside the pavilion, one feels the inverted wood framing overhead. This exposed roof structure compliments the exterior variegated construction of the wood slats; whose openness allow for both light and air to move freely throughout the pavilion.
